The Eugene Thomas Journal is a design driven blog focusing on modern design, pop culture, and all things cool. Eugene loves the Mid-Century Modern spirit, but does not limit himself to one era. He focuses on originality, authenticity, and all things that feature truly good design. His passions are architecture and home decor, as well as the way we live. Lifestyle, travel, the environment, and how we treat each other are as equally important as the structures we live in and the things we surround ourselves with.
Eugene Thomas gets his talent, inspiration, and his name, from his father, Anthony Eugene. His father grew up in a family of artists and inventors, but being a child of the great depression, he was never given the opportunity to truly explore and develop his talents to their full potential. Anthony dreamed of being a cartoonist, and when he joined the Navy, he drew a cartoon sailor on his sea bag, much to the displeasure of his drill sergeant at boot camp. After his tour, he came home and married his sweetheart, settled down and raised five children. It was only later in life, when the nest was empty, that he rekindled his passion for art and took up watercolors. He looked to nature for his muse, and loved to paint birds and flowers. Anthony lost his battle with leukemia several years ago, and is missed every day.
